SCOTIABANK to Continue with Sponsorship to CAGA
(Friday 28th May, 2010) Red Deer, Alberta
Gwen Davies, President of The Canadian Amputee Golf Association (CAGA) announced at a press reception for this year`s inductees into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, that Scotiabank will be continuing as the major sponsor of the Association and title sponsor of the Canadian Amputee National Open golf tournament. Scotiabank has supported amputee golf in Canada since the inception of CAGA in 2001.
March 2010 - June 10 - June 12, 2010 will see the end of an era, as Chris and Mike Lincoln run the ‘goodbye BAGA’ golf tournament at the picturesque Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel and Spa in Wales. Lack of volunteers over the past few years has led to the windup of the British Amputee Golf Association. We at CAGA are sorry to see this happen.
Built by BAGA founder Brian Mayo, who lost both of his legs due to the ingestion of fertilizer off golf balls, Bryn Meadows is a beautiful golf resort and spa with wonderful amenities, so if you have an interest please contact Chris or Mike Lincoln at lincolnaddsup@yahoo.co.uk for full details on this last BAGA tournament.
January 2010 - The top four Canadians at the 2009 Canadian Amputee National Open golf tournament in London, Ontario in August 2009, have qualified to receive funding from CAGA to compete in a sanctioned amputee event outside of Canada. Congratulations to amputee , (3rd overall) Josh Williams Ontario (Below Knee) Daniel Lefebvre, Quebec, (Below Knee) John Mc Naughton, Alberta (Below Elbow) and John Getchell, Alberta, (Above Elbow) who we know will represent Canadian amputees well.
The deadline for this year’s CAGA scholarship application is August 31st, 2010. If you are an amputee doing secondary education, whether or not it is a University degree or you are taking a Trade, then get an application off the CAGA website, fill it out and send it in to CAGA for consideration. Scholarships are available for Canadian citizens, both men or women. Contact canamps@caga.ca for further information.
September 14th, 2009 - CAGA congratulates Margaret (Maggie) Thomas of Sudbury, Ontario and Daniel Mac Kinnon of Edmonton, Alberta, recipients of CAGA scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. Maggie is in her last year of prosthetics at the George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario, while Daniel is finishing his certification as a prosthetist at BCIT in Vancouver, British Columbia. CAGA is pleased to be able to help these young people complete their education in prosthetics & orthotics and wishes them well in their future endeavours. As Lifetime members of CAGA, we know we will hear lots from them. There is a never-ending need to have more certified prosthetists in the Canadian health system and CAGA is proud to be a part of assisting in this regard.
